NOCSAE is an acronym for the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment. While NOCSAE sets the standards for athletic gear certification, they do not perform the certification themselves. They rely on an independent third party, SEI (Safety Equipment Institute), to perform safety tests at independently run laboratories. This gives athletes and umpires confidence knowing their equipment has been tested and verified by an unbiased third party. Most youth leagues in the USA require helmets and chest protectors to be certified.
Our Defender Helmet, XS3® Helmet, and our SEI Certified for NOCSAE Standard Chest Protectors have been certified. There is no certification process for Traditional Masks or Leg Guards.
If your catcher is under 16, many youth leagues require SEI Certified for NOCSAE Standard protective headwear. If this is the case, choose between the Defender Helmet and our top-of-the-line XS3® Pro Helmet.
Most youth leagues require headwear that is SEI Certified for NOCSAE Standard. The Traditional Defender Mask is for adults only in most cases. Choose a Defender or XS3® Helmet instead—both are SEI Certified for NOCSAE Standard.
The Defender Helmet provides all the safety features you would expect from FORCE3, including our S3 Shock Suspension System® (aka: the Springs). It is our base model. The XS3® is our top-of-the-line helmet, offering even more features and worn by the pros.
Our Defender Chest Protector (Solid State and Two Tone) features the same core properties as our SEI Certified for NOCSAE Standard Chest Protector, but the blast shield is smaller and the chest protector is lighter. It only comes in adult sizes because it is not SEI Certified. The SEI Certified Chest Protector (Solid State and Two Tone) comes in Junior, Youth, Intermediate, and Adult sizes and features a larger blast shield for added protection.
Our Defender Leg Guards are our base model, offering safety, functionality, and comfort. Our top-of-the-line XS3® Leg Guards are designed for those looking to elevate their game.
